20-22/03/2024 – INEA Congress Intercountry adoption: creating a multiperspective narrative

From March 20 until March 22 the first (international) INEA Congress took place. The theme of this three-day congress was: Intercountry adoption: creating a multi-perspective narrative.

On day one Nicole Immler participated in the opening paneldebate, following-up on the keynote speaker Elvira Loibl. The paneldebate discussed what is meant by ‘Transformative Justice’ and in which way this frame allows us to broaden research on adoption, and to better understand why there are still so many shortcomings in terms of recognition and repair. The panel debate reviewed the adoption system from an interdisciplinary and systemic perspective, with panelists Amanda Baden, Mark de Hek, Patrick Noordoven, Sam van den Haak and Sophie Withaeckx, moderated by Erben Oosting.

On day two Niké Wentholt guided a workshop on Transformative Justice: a way to recognition and recovery. Introducing the concept of Transformative Justice – a new approach in the field of Transitional Justice – Niké discussed in which way it might allow to examine and discuss question of recognition and repair around adoption in a more bottom-up and systemic ways.
