On December 10, 2024 we organized this event together with Disability Studies in Nederland at the University of Humanistic Studies. The Human Library offers a platform for people to share their unique, multivoiced stories about issues of injustice, recognition, and repair. The event took place on Human Rights Day. One week prior was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The central idea is the concept of the multivoiced self: that a person consists of multiple ‘selves’ and is therefore multivoiced. These are voices that can be in conversation and agreement, but also in conflict with one another. The Human Library invites students and other interested individuals to engage in conversation with a person (a ‘book’) who has a multivoiced story to tell. Here’s how it works: readers borrow a ‘book’ (a person), engage in a half-hour conversation, and then move on to the next book. You’ll have the opportunity to speak with three different books.
More information on the event can be found here.
