NOS Radio 1 journaal, a daily national radio news show, interviewed Niké Wentholt on the results of our Dialogics of Justice-project. She was asked what we think the Netherlands can learn from our project and what it is that seems to be missing from so many repair trajectories. Giving words to our main findings, Niké emphasized the positive value of conflict and emotions in repair and called on Dutch institutions, especially the government, to truly include those affected by the violence as experts. People who have lived through the injustice know what needs to happen. This way, repair processes can be less haphazard: governments now always tend to ‘contain’ first and then have to broaden the repair procedure as frustrastion arises about the inadequacy of the process. Most importantly, repair can then truly contribute making sure that the injustice will not repeat itself – the main wish of all those who lived through it.
