Ik heb daar ook uitgebreid bij stilgestaan. Aan de andere kant vind ik het belangrijk om ook over de nabestaanden te praten. Het kan niet zo zijn dat elke keer wanneer het gaat over Dutchbat, over 11 juli of over Srebrenica we het leed van de nabestaanden van de slachtoffers onbenoemd laten. Ik heb expliciet, misschien in tegenstelling tot mevrouw Belhaj, de keuze gemaakt om het te hebben over de nabestaanden van de slachtoffers, want ik vind dat je dat altijd in samenhang moet bezien.”

Kuzu makes an explicit link here between the experience of Dutchbat and the experience of the genocide survivors, stating that these always have to be seen “in relation” to each other. Hereby, he seems to express a multivoiced Dutch identity that makes space for both its relation to Dutchbat and to the Srebrenica survivors. This both acknowledges that the genocide is a shared Bosnian-Dutch history, and shows that these two groups should not be put in opposition to each other
In a debate that is on Dutchbat, Kuzu creates space for Srebrenica genocide survivors, and is directly interrupted for doing this, suggesting that his attempt to broaden recognition towards the group of genocide survivors somehow takes away from the recognition for Dutchbat that is being discussed

Context
This project broadens the classic Transitional Justice focus on mass human rights violations towards social, economic and ecological violence. Building upon the findings of the four case studies this project examines the full array of recognition and reparation procedures currently taking place in civil courts. It also includes ‘alternative routes’ (non-legal and hybrid mechanisms) into the analysis. To account for this breadth, the findings of the individual projects will be synthesized in two ways: First (1), a socio-legal analysis, resulting into a report and a toolkit, will explore how people seek and define justice and recognition in legal contexts. Second (2), a dialogical analysis, resulting in a monograph, will integrate the understudied social dimensions of recognition and reparation. Both will show the potential of recognition and reparation procedures to create transformative justice.
